Who are the National Association of Funeral Directors?
The National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) are a voice for the funeral professional and bereaved people in the UK. They promote high standards and provide members with resources to support them in delivering high standards of care for bereaved and deceased people. Importantly, they ensure consumers have the information they need to make informed decisions when arranging a funeral, helping them to choose a compassionate, professional and experienced funeral director that they can trust.
The NAFD sets high standards for its members. NAFD member firms must abide by the Funeral Director Code, a comprehensive code of practice, developed on consultation with the wider sector and consumer organisations. Funeral home members are regularly inspected by the Independent Funeral Standards Organisation and are offered guidance and support in reaching the highest standards.
Perfect Cremation are proud to be members of the NAFD, alongside more than 4,100 UK funeral homes but it is not compulsory to be a member, and there is no official oversight of the funeral profession in the UK. Many online direct cremation providers are not members of the NAFD so it is very important when you are seeking to appoint a funeral director or direct cremation provider, to care for your deceased loved one, to ask questions, especially around how that person will be cared for. The provider should communicate transparently and be willing to show you their facilities.
If you have any questions around this topic, please do get in touch with us or contact the NAFD.
